CENTRAL EUROPE
Despite the fact that a number of countries in Central Europe
have sought membership in NATO, they are still struggling
to build stable democratic governing institutions after years
of totalitarian or authoritarian rule. It is critical that
Central Europe remains stable while the countries of this
region embrace democracy and emerge to become valuable partners.
The LDESP program provides insight on how to improve security
and civil-military relations in Central Europe, supports the
State partnership and peacekeeping missions, and promotes
collaborative efforts between Europe and the United States
to estabilish stability and democracy in the region.
