About the LDESP Program
LDESP is a graduate-level syllabus that is designed to provide
participants with an educational foundation that enables leadership
to set up a frame of reference in order to launch an understanding
of the inherent complex, ambiguous, and rapidly changing environment.
The LDESP program includes the infusion of professionals from
various disciplines and/or agencies such as ambassadors, ex-political
officials, former military commanders, security and international
law enforcement personnel, internal community members, and
United Nations and State Department personnel.
Extensive interviews with personnel in units conducting SASO
indicate that senior leaders benefit from a specialized, education
program focused on advancing their understanding of political
processes and principles, and knowledge of other organizations,
both governmental and nongovernmental, that are typically
involved in such operations. In particular, those personnel
emphasized that leader's benefit from preparation to accomplish
the mission while operating as an effective team in partnership
with the authorities and civilian agencies (US and international)
responsible for building the foundations for self-sustaining
stability and security.
The program is a key component for creating consistency,
continuity, and institutional memory in an operational environment
that turns over senior military leaders every
six month to twelve months.
WHEN
Programs are scheduled to meet the operational needs of deploying
units. The residence seminar is scheduled to coincide with
the Divisional or Brigade training program and is scheduled
as the first event to establish intellectual preparation needed
prior to entering the Army training program. Contact the LDESP
Staff for the next scheduled program.
FOR WHOM:
This graduate level education program serves the education needs
of the Brigade Staffs and subordinate unit leaders both reserve
and active component. It is also oriented for members of the
International Community and Multinational military members who
are or will be working collectively within the same operational
environment.

FACULTY
The LDESP teaching strategy is based on a simple premise: those
who have dealt with the stability challenges in the area of operations
most recently will have especially valuable expertise for follow-on
units. Hence, the curriculum will be taught by:
- Active and Reserve and officers from units just rotated out;
- representatives of key IOs, NGOs and US agencies, who will present
their stability-related activities and strategies; and
- faculty from CCMR and partner institutions with extensive experience
in stability and support operations and security issues.
